Current-voltage characteristics on a large-area monolayer of bacteriorhodopsin. Measured I-V characteristics of the native and activated state of bR are compared
with theoretical calculations carried out using the 2NTU and 2NTW structures for the
native and activated states, respectively. (a) - Full squares (circles) refer to calculations of the native (activated) state)
carried out with Φ = 53 meV the same for each barrier; continuous curves are guides to the eyes, dashed
